Early morning departure from Addis to Melka Kunture, near the Awash River and proceed to the rock hewn church of Adadi Mariam. After the visit, enjoy your picnic lunch and drive to Tiya stone obelisk. Drive back to Addis Ababa.

Early morning drive from Addis Ababa to Debre-Brehan 130 km North of Addis. Proceed to Ankober the former capital of the Shewan Dynasty, the seat of King Sahele Selassie. Picnic lunch at Ankober. Drive back to Debre-Berhan, coffee stop and then return to Addis.

100kms south of Addis Ababa passing through the towns of Debre-Zeit and Mojo is the commercial town of Nazareth; the capital of The Oromia Regional State. Coffee stops at Nazareth and proceeds to the resort area of Sodore 26km from Nazareth. Enjoy swimming and bathing in the naturally hot water, lunch at Sodore. Drive back to Addis Ababa.

Drive from Addis Ababa to Debre-Zeit 42 km South of Addis Ababa and turn right to drive up the hills and climb the Mountain of Ziquala 3000m ASL. On the top of the mountain is situated the Monastery of “Zikuala Abo”. Right behind the monastery is the volcanic crater Lake of Zikuala. After Visit, drive to Debre-Zeit. Lunch box at Zikuala or a hotel lunch at Debre-Zeit. After lunch, visit two of the six volcanic lakes and return to Addis Ababa before dusk.

Drive to Menagesha forest with a stopover at Gefersa. After lunch, drive back to the main road passing through Menagesha town to further West and proceed to Addis Alem meaning the new world. Visit the church of Addis Alem Mariam and drive back to Addis Ababa.

The Blue Nile Gorge found at 210 km North of Addis Ababa, is one of the most spectacular gorges in the world; bigger, wider and dipper than the Grand Canyon of US America. A right turn after 100 km drive will take us to the 13th Century Monastery of Debre-Libanos. One of the endemic mammals of our country, The Gelada Baboon is also found hear in the cliff. A few Kilometers from the monastery is the 16th century Portuguese Bridge also worth a visit. Continue to drive through the Selale or Shewan plain and farmlands till you reach the Gorge. It will take about 45 min to reach the river bed(Blue Nile River). Picnic lunch on either side of the river. Early afternoon, drive back to Addis Ababa.

Drive to Ambo 125km West of Addis Ababa passing through the Gefersa Water Reservoir, the town of Menagesha and Addis Alem, once planned by Menelik II to become the capital of Ethiopia. Turn left from Ambo town to reach the volcanic crater Lake Wonchi and walk down through a difficult 45-50min path to the shore of the Lake. Take a wooden boat locally called “TANKUA” and enjoy your picnic lunch on an island. Then cross back the lake to take a mule or to walk up the hills, approximately 1:30hrs and drive back to Ambo. Coffee stops at Ambo and then proceed to Addis Ababa to reach before dusk.

Menagesha Forest National Park is found at 42 km West of Addis Ababa after passing the town of Menagesha. On the way, stop at Gefersa where you can see many bird species including the endemic ones like the Blue-winged Goose, the Black-headed Siskin, Rouget’s Rail, and others. The Mountain of Menagesha is covered with old Juniper trees dating back to 400 years. It is a well kept and the nearest NP to Addis Ababa. Walking through the forest and enjoying bird watching and a tranquil atmosphere is a remarkable activity. Picnic lunch by the guest house or in the mountains. Late afternoon, drive back to Addis Ababa via Meta Beer Brewery.

The full day city tour of Addis Ababa includes a visit to The National Museum, The Menelik’s Mausoleum, The Ethnological Museum also known as the Institute of Ethiopian Studies, Mount Entoto, and Merkato.
